The Campaign for Real Choice in Illinois is a brand new web site that has as its focus bringing awareness of the individuality of all people with disabilities and, therefore, their right to choose how to live their lives into the forefront of society. Formed as a collaborative effort between many individuals, the web site is primarily the brainchild of Lester and Barbara Pritchard. Their work on issues, such as LDC, has brought Illinois' institutional record into light. The Campaign for Real Choice in Illinois will focus on many issues, as the group and web site evolves. CCDI fully endorses and supports the Campaign's efforts.

Health and Disability Advocates

HDA seeks to assure that low-income older adults, children and adults with disabilities lead secure and dignified lives. HDA advocates for policies that promote economic security and provide health coverage. HDA's efforts are coordinated with and informed by individuals who rely on government programs, direct service providers, community-based organizations, the private sector and state and federal agencies. HDA's advocacy efforts identify systemic barriers to self-sufficiency, employment and access to health care and promote policy solutions to eliminate those barriers. HDA strives to protect and strengthen federal and state safety net programs. These include Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Medicaid and Medicare.

Illinois Community Action Association

Illinois Families for Hands & Voices is a parent-driven, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting families that have children who are deaf and hard-of-hearing without a bias toward communication modes or methodologies. We want to provide Illinois families with the necessary resources, networking, and information in order to improve communication access and educational outcomes for their children. Jim Mullen Foundation

The Jim Mullen Foundation gives away free computers to people who have a disability (visually impaired, deaf or hard of hearing, spinal cord injury or wheelchair-bound, and cognitive impairments.) Computer recipients must provide physician's verification of their disability. Application fee is $35 for non-members of the Jim Mullen Foundation. Computers are tested before delivery but are not warranteed. Shipping and handling are not included.

Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities in Chicago (MOPD)
