Position: Executive Director
Classification: Full Time – Exempt

JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Coalition from the Springfield, Illinois office and to provide supervision and guidance to staff. Under the direct supervision of the Board President, the Executive Director will implement policies of the Board and communicate the mission and vision of the Coalition to staff, members, elected officials, policy makers, and other disability organizations and the general public. The Executive Director will direct advocacy on issues affecting the lives of people with disabilities. This position plays a key role in working with board members and the membership on multiple advocacy issues including legislative initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience in a field related to the responsibilities either of the position or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Committed to empowering people with disabilities to live independently.
• Knowledge of Federal and State laws, regulations and/or other issues pertaining to disability rights and independent living philosophy.
• Expertise advocating for the rights of people with disabilities and applying principles of community organizing.
• Non-profit work experience.
• Ability to think creatively and to strategically lead, motivate, mediate and negotiate with groups and individuals.
• Experience in obtaining revenue through grant writing, government contracts, foundations, corporations, fundraising and individual giving campaigns.
• Experience with conference planning.
• Effective verbal and written communication, multi-tasking, organizational and prioritization skills are necessary.
• Interpersonal and communication skills that promote ability to serve as a liaison and resource.
• Ability to follow procedures, attention to detail, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with groups and individuals.
• Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software.
• Expertise in assistive technology applications.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Statewide travel required.
